Yaris Cross benefits from Toyota’s fourth generation hybrid technology. A raised ride height and the availability of AWD-i intelligent all-wheel drive reinforce its authentic SUV credentials.Īdding Yaris Cross to the line-up will give Toyota an SUV range that spans the B, C and D segments. Yaris Cross is also a genuine SUV, benefiting from Toyota’s experience in originating the concept of the recreational SUV 25 years ago with the RAV4 – today the world’s best-selling SUV – and more recently in producing the stylish and highly efficient C-HR. It also shares the “big-small” design and packaging concept that characterised the original Yaris, and presents a roomy interior within compact exterior dimensions. The unmatched experience it has gained ensures that Yaris Cross’s new fourth generation hybrid powertrain delivers exceptional performance and efficiency.Īs a member of the Yaris family, Yaris Cross is constructed on Toyota’s new GA-B compact car platform. Toyota’s world leadership in hybrid vehicle technology includes the first use of a hybrid system in a B-segment car with the original Yaris Hybrid in 2012. The new Yaris Cross draws on Toyota’s strong heritage of advanced hybrid technology, small car design and SUV engineering. It will be made in Europe too, at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF), alongside the new generation Yaris hatchback, from 2021. The new Yaris Cross has been designed and developed for Europe, specifically to meet the requirements and preferences of the region’s B-SUV market. These are exactly the qualities Toyota has instilled in the all-new Yaris Cross. When it comes to driving, it’s an environment where motorists increasingly appreciate the robust, high-riding qualities of an SUV, but on a scale tailored to suit urban streets and with a genuine emphasis on environmental performance.Īt the same time, drivers want a vehicle that’s distinctive and stylish, and which has all the flexibility they need for an active lifestyle. Urban life presents particular challenges. Once the sensors detect poor grip conditions, the AWD system kicks in and helps the driver tackle the rain, snow, or even sand. The combustion engine has a thermal efficiency of up to 40 percent and can power the vehicle alone in front-wheel-drive mode. There’s even a belt system allowing owners to secure objects in place without having to worry about the items flying all over the cargo area while driving.Īll-wheel drive is not that common in Europe’s small SUV segment, which is why we’re glad to report the Yaris Cross will offer an AWD layout coupled to a hybrid powertrain consisting of a three-cylinder 1.5-liter gasoline engine working together with an electric motor. Once you open the cargo area, the floor can be adjusted in height and can also be split into two depending on what you need to carry. When moving up to the XSE grade, the Corolla Cross Hybrid’s sportiest offering builds on the features of the SE and gains standard 18-inch Alloy wheels, premium LED head lamps, tail lamps and fog lamps, Softex-trimmed seats with the addition of heated front seats and a power driver’s seat.Buyers will be able to order the Yaris Cross with wheels as large as 18 inches and a shiny new paint called Brass Gold, while the optional electric tailgate will make loading and unloading cargo easier. The SE grade adds privacy glass, roof rails and paddle shifters – not to mention standard Blind-Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). Toyota says the following in its press release: "17-inch Alloy wheels, 8-inch touchscreen, a sport-tuned suspension, LED head and tail lamps and smart key access. All the lines and exterior features are modern and suggest a rugged nature, while the press photos suggest fun and youth, with the funky green colored-press car surrounded by younger adults and striking backdrops.Ī modern cabin awaits inside with an 8” touchscreen as standard, and a smaller driver’s info screen between the analog dials, top-spec XLE trim has the most options and a suite of premium materials.
